Petromarula Pinnata
Family; Campanulaceae
English; Wall-Lettuce
The Cretan countryside or the alleys of mountainous villages may hold a pleasant surprise to nature lovers: robust rosettes, spikes of closely packed starry mauve flowers that make a show of elegance during the months of June-July. This flower also occurs in rugged gorges, even shoots out of wall crannies, hence also its name "Cretan Wall-lettuce". This plant is edible, either raw or boiled, before it blooms.
Popular Greek names:
"Agriomarula", "Petromarula".
