Fondues are always lots of fun, and the delicious ingredients used here – fresh fruit, chocolate and marshmallow – mean that this recipe will be a popular choice with children and adults alike.

 

Ingredients

2 bananas
2 kiwi fruit
12 strawberries
15ml/1 tbsp melted butter
15ml/1 tbsp lemon juice
5ml/1 tsp ground cinnamon

FOR THE FONDUE

225g/8oz plain chocolate
120ml/4fl oz/½ cup single cream
8 marshmallows
2.5ml/½ tsp vanilla essence

Method

1. Peel the bananas and cut into thick chunks. Peel the kiwi fruit and quarter them. Thread the bananas, kiwi fruit and strawberries on to four wooden skewers. (Soak the skewers in water for 15 minutes beforehand to prevent them scorching on the barbecue.)

 

2. Mix together the butter, lemon juice and ground cinnamon and brush the mixture generously over the fruits.

 

3. For the fondue, place the chocolate, cream and marshmallows in a small pan and heat gently, without boiling, stirring continuously until the mixture has melted and is smooth.

 

4. Cook the kebabs on a medium-­hot barbecue for about 2-3 minutes, turning once, or until the fruit is golden. Stir the vanilla essence into the fondue. Empty the fondue into a small bowl and serve at once, with the fruit kebabs.
