Oily Kadaif
Ingredients
1 kilo ready - made kadaif pastry
½ kilo almond kernels
1 ½ tablespoons cinnamon
1 tablespoon crushed rusk
2 cups oil
For the syrup:
1 ½ kilos of sugar
4 glasses of water
The juice of 1 lemon
Vanilla
Method
Pound the almonds and mix with the cinnamon and the crushed rusk. Coat a baking tin with olive oil. Take one piece of the pastry and spread one tablespoonful of the mixture over it. Roll it up into a sausage roll shape and place in the baking tin. Continue in the same way with the rest of the pastry and when all of them are rolled up, put the oil on to heat. When it is hot, pour it over (1 full tablespoon) each roll. Allow the rolls to bake in a moderate oven for 40 minutes until lightly browned. Allow to cool, then prepare the syrup. Boil the sugar with the water, add the vanilla and the juice of the lemon and then pour slowly over the rolls.
