Baked Lentils

Ingredients

½ lb lentils, washed
2 slices bacon, chopped
2 oz. (¼ cup) brown sugar
1 oz. (¼ cup) onion, chopped
3 tablespoons (¼ cup) chilli sauce
3 oz. (¼ cup) black treacle (molasses)
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon made mustard

Method

Combine all the ingredients with 1¼ pints (3 cups) water in a 3 quart heat resistant casserole. Cover and cook on HIGH for 10 minutes. Stir, then continue cooking covered on LOW for 50-55 minutes until tender. Leave to stand, covered, for 5 minutes before serving. Water may be added if necessary during cooking time.

On microwave ovens without variable control of 650 watts or greater output, cook for 40 minutes, stirring occasionally. The dish will be improved if it is left to stand for 2 minutes four times during the cooking period.
